RSS has established plans to ensure that by 2028, each RSS student will have a career development plan that documents their passions and interests, and will be used to create a pathway toward successful enrollment, enlistment, or employment upon graduation.

 

High School Registration Resources

Graduation & Grade-level Promotions

  • Students must meet all requirements set by The North Carolina Department of Instruction standards. Students who do not complete all graduation requirements the day before graduation will not participate in the graduation ceremony.

    Students who are planning to attend a four-year college or university (UNC system or other in-state university), must complete two courses in the same World Language (ex. Spanish I and II) as a requirement for admission. Please see your Student Services Counselor for more details.**

  • HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS

    • To be classified as a Sophomore, you must earn a minimum of 5 credits.

    • To be classified as a Junior, you must earn a minimum of 10 credits.

    • To be classified as a Senior, you must earn a minimum of 16 Credits.

High School Academies

Our High School Academies offer specialized curricula and courses aligned to specific career pathways.

 

Rising ninth-grade students who are unable to obtain academies or concentrations in their regularly assigned school may apply to another school within the Rowan-Salisbury School System (RSS) that does offer that academy or concentration. Transfers into high school academies for rising ninth graders will be granted on a space-available basis, with students in the academy's host school given first opportunity for enrollment in the academy.

RSS high school students can apply to take academy courses at other RSS high schools without transferring.

Academy of the Arts

Jesse C. Carson High School - Offering pathways in fine and performing arts, including dance, instrumental music, theater, technical theater, visual arts, and vocal music.

Agriculture & Farm to Table

West Rowan High School - Focuses available in animal science, horticulture, agricultural mechanics, and our farm-to-table program that teaches students how to cultivate, prepare, design, and market meals using fresh and home-grown ingredients.

Center for Entrepreneurship & Design

North Rowan High School - Offers industry credentials, including career management, career readiness employability skills, project management entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship and management/small business certification, and venture entrepreneurial expedition.

Communications & Digital Design

South Rowan High School - Learn industry-based skills in marketing, public relations, journalism, media and film, digital photography, gaming design, graphic design, and app development and animation.

Human Services

East Rowan High School - Focuses include Teaching as a Profession, Early Childhood Development, Counseling and Mental Health, Foods and Nutrition, and Culinary and Hospitality.

S.T.E.M. & Advanced Manufacturing

Salisbury High School - Choose from over 20 Advanced Placement courses in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, including focuses in robotics, mechatronics, metals manufacturing, and more.
